Confessions of an Anxious People

Like the chill of frozen ground

seeps through the soles of our shoes

it enters our bones and compounds

a certain numbness, ephemeral, diffuse

.

seeps through the soles of our shoes

colorless – anxiety –a  tepid water

a certain numbness, ephemeral, diffuse

becomes a habit like nervous laughter

.

colorless  – anxiety – a tepid water

runs the curb edges of our streets

becomes a habit like nervous laughter

like fog drifting over concrete

.

runs the curb edges of our streets

it enters our bones and compounds

like fog drifting over concrete

like the chill of frozen ground.

White Laughter Ascending

White laughter ascending sea gulls rise

Carrying shimmering silver fish through thin clouds

Calling – calling – calling – joyful – surprised

We stand in awe on trembling ground.

Carrying shimmering silver fish through thin clouds

Set free from dark seas still dripping they rise.

We stand in awe on trembling ground,

All things white laughter and surprise.

Set free from dark seas still dripping they rise.

And the least and the last and the lost are found

All things white laughter and surprise

And the dew, a radiant dew, dances at the sound.

And the least and the last and the lost are found

Calling – calling – calling – joyful – surprised

And the dew, a radiant dew, dances at the sound

White laughter ascending sea gulls rise.
